Bao with Bae London Taiwanese Street Food for Valentine's Day
With Valentine’s Day round the corner, the pressure is on to find the perfect place to dine with your loved one or you could be just looking to treat yourself to something new. If that’s the case we highly recommend going to Bao. The former street food traders have now set up shop in Soho and Fitzrovia serving their famous Taiwanese steamed milk buns and other delicious eats. We headed down to their Soho branch to see what makes this small setup such a big deal.
Before I go on, the Lexington Street branch does not take bookings but DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT be put off by the queue. It may be raining, it may be cold but the wait will all be worth it in the end – trust me! The wood-furnished venue itself is compact, but the intimacy adds to the the charm of it.
Once seated you’re given a run down of how the ordering system works, told what the specials are and given two white slips for ordering – one for food and the other for drinks. Bao’s small dishes are ideal for sharing and with so many options to choose from it is difficult to know what to go for. However with dishes costing no more than £6 each you and your date could afford to get a taste of almost all the dishes or if you are feeling really hungry the whole damn menu.
The drinks menu is just as exceptional as the food – consisting of beers, wines, sakés, hot oolong teas and signature cocktails all made to compliment everything you eat.
I had high expectations of what Bao London could offer but everything on the menu (and I mean everything) was so tasty and satisfying I have to say it exceeded it. Food, drinks and staff were all on point. So there you have it – Valentine’s Day dinner sorted. You can thank us later!
